This is your reminder to Laugh!
Whilst I write this I am also preparing for a Mothers Day service at the moment and have been looking at Sarah. She laughed when she overheard that she was to become a mother at a ripe old age but she did have her son as promised by God and they named him Isaac as God had asked them to… Isaac meaning “He Laughs” in Hebrew. In the Good news bible in Genesis 21.v 6 it says “Sarah said, “God has brought me joy and laughter. Everyone who hears about it will laugh with me”
So I have been thinking about laughter and joy…
My Daughter is quite funny, she is quick witted, on the ball and a natural comedian, without actually knowing she is doing it… some of the time…
I look forward to seeing her because I know she is going to make me laugh. Whether it is the way she is telling me a story about something that has happened since we last spoke, her poor husband often being the brunt of her stories, or sometimes just her innocent misunderstandings… a story told at her wedding was one of giving her directions …You go round the M25… her reply – “what do you mean Round the M25? All motorways are straight”… yes we laughed at her misunderstanding, her lack of knowledge and the look on her face…
Children bring joy and laughter.
A question recently asked by one of the young people in one of the groups I am part of … “Does God laugh?” I am sure I have heard or possibly felt God laughing at me when I have said something or questioned him or indeed been saying sorry for something…Like a good, understanding Dad, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard him chuckle and say “I am sure that wont be the last time you are saying sorry for that”…
SO, I don’t really know where I am going with this but I’ve got a book called “Does God LOL” (Laugh out loud)… It’s a book full of short musings from comedians, actors and performers who have been giving the question some thought…One of my favourite stories was written by Bobby Ball who became a Christian sometime in 1986.. he wrote” Laughter belongs to God and everything other than joy is not of God” He also said “you can’t laugh and worry and at the same time”
I guess what I am trying to say is – live joyfully, laugh and remember the bible verse:
Nehemiah 8:10 The joy of the Lord is your strength.
