The grace that saves - and sustains

Have you ever hit your breaking point? Staring at your own broken promises in the mirror, heart heavy, wondering why you just can’t seem to change? You’ve prayed, you’ve vowed, you’ve bargained: “God, help me, and I swear I’ll never…” Yet here you are again, stuck in the same cycle of guilt and regret.

I get it. I’ve been there, too. And what finally set me free wasn’t a stricter plan or more discipline; it was finally grasping this truth: the same grace that saves you is the grace that sustains you

When Paul writes in Titus 2:11–12,

“For the grace of God has appeared…training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives,”

Paul here is painting a picture of grace as a present-day companion, not a distant transaction. The same grace that saves you is the grace that sustains you in every moment of weakness, every last-ditch effort, every whisper of doubt.

Think about that first moment you understood you were forgiven, you didn’t earn it. You didn’t deserve it. You simply received it. And here’s the radical invitation: that very same unmerited favour is not behind you but right beside you now. The same grace that saves you is the grace that sustains you when temptation shouts your name, when shame threatens to swallow you, when your own resolve gives out.

So today, instead of beating yourself up for yesterday’s failure or mustering up a new round of promises, stop. Breathe. Ask once more for the grace that first rescued you and watch it transform the rest of your story. Because every step forward, every small victory, every heartfelt prayer of surrender is powered not by your grit but by grace. And remember the same grace that saves you is the grace that sustains you.
