Reflecting God: Becoming Fully Human

Being made in the image of God is not just a label. It’s not a status we have as humans. It’s a calling. Each of us was created to reflect God’s glory to shine His love, wisdom, and beauty into the world. This is what it means to be fully human: to live in alignment with the design God gave us, expressing His character in the way we think, speak, and act.

Sin, brokenness, and selfishness do more than separate us from God; they make us less human. When we exchange His glory for comfort, control, success, or other idols, the image of God within us becomes blurred. We shrink into distorted versions of ourselves, hollowed out by the very things we hoped would satisfy.

But the good news of the gospel is that Jesus restores what was lost. In Him, the image of God is revealed fully, perfectly, and personally. In His life, we see what true humanity really looks like. Through the power of the gospel, we are invited to step back into our true humanity. When we follow Him and reflect His character, we become fully alive. We are no longer defined by what we have done or what we lack, but by who we were always created to be: mirrors of God’s glory.

To live as an imager of God is to live fully, authentically, and with purpose. Every act of kindness, creativity, courage, or mercy is a reflection of Him. Every choice to love and serve others is a reflection of the image we were made to bear. In following Jesus, we are not just forgiven, we are restored, re-humanised, and empowered to show the world what it truly means to be alive.

We were created for this. God calls us to it. And when we answer, we become the truest version of ourselves, alive in Him, reflecting His glory, and fully human as He intended.
