Conference Reflections
The conference held in 2008 jointly with other partners and under the auspicies of the Churches Rural Group was attended by almost 100 people and this included people from various denominations, of various ages, and various experience with rural issues. Some were clergy and included rural officers, agricultural chaplains and rural evangelists. The venue was the Hayes Conference Centre, in Derbyshire.
The programme included four main sessions led by three very comptetent speakers. Bishop Alan Smith set the scene looking at sustainable communities in rural areas, and later sustainable faith in rural areas. Sir Donald Curry spoke about the impact of government policies on sustainablility in rural areas. Professor Tim Gorringe spoke about agriculture, especially in the light of the expected running out of oil in the near future.
A range of Issue Groups were run twice with excellent leaders. Some of these could well have been main topics they were so interesting.
A good proportion of attendees completed an online questionnaire after the event. Everything was rated highly with many aspects close to maximum.
